JOSE ZARAGOZA

SENIOR RESEARCH ASSOCIATE
Roots:

Jose Zaragoza is a Senior Research Associate at Switch Bioworks, where he engineers beneficial soil microbes to promote plant health and advance agricultural sustainability. With over a decade of experience in molecular biology and microbiology, Jose specializes in microbial strain engineering, genetic circuit design, and assay development.

Before joining Switch, he contributed to strain development and workflow optimization at Ginkgo Bioworks and Bayer CropScience. His technical expertise spans molecular cloning, microbial transformation, and protein quantification assays, as well as high-throughput methods for liquid handling, colony picking, and nucleic acid extraction. He has worked extensively with a variety of microbial hosts, including Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and diverse yeast strains.

Jose holds a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of California, Davis. Outside the lab, he enjoys outdoor activities and spending time with his family.
